Portable toilet units on work sites are normally serviced on a weekly basis. The servicing schedule for the service driver and their daily route is arranged to minimize mileage between units. In a metropolitan area, a service person should be able to perform service on forty to fifty units per day. The route service procedure involves driving the service truck within approximately fifteen feet of the portable toilet and performing the following five steps:

1. Pumping or evacuating the effluent from the portable toilet receptacle into the truck's holding tank.
2. Recharging the portable toilet receptacle with earth-friendly chemicals and five gallons of water..
3. Sanitizing the interior of the portable toilet by scrubbing with brushes and removing graffiti as needed..
4. Providing two rolls of toilet tissue..
5. Performing minor repairs to the portable toilet as needed..

Toilets in public parks and recreational areas are serviced in the same manner and may be integrated into the service schedule along with construction units in the general area. At the end of each work day, the service people go to an approved facility where the effluent is emptied from the truck. Fresh solution, toilet tissue and other miscellaneous supply items are then replenished in the truck. The truck is washed and maintenance is performed to prepare the equipment for the next day.

Special Events Requirements: Special events are short-term outdoor public gatherings. At special events, toilet units are placed on a site and picked up when the event is completed. For big events with a large number of units, the service truck may remain on-site to provide continuous stand-by maintenance service or provide a planned service the following day.
